Sometimes "Thank You" Is Not Enough
(Bishop Paul L. Leeland) - Sometimes "thank you" is not enough. It doesn't always capture the depth of our gratitude and we don't always recognize the sacrifice that has been made by others. However, I did think about the sacrifices made by congregations in our Alabama-West Florida Conference when I looked at the large stack of certificates awaiting my signature in gratitude for the acknowledgement of paying 100% of their Missional Giving. As United Methodists, we truly represent a Movement within the world. Thank you! Click here for full letter. [Pensacola District Churches receiving certificates signed by Bishop Leeland and District Superintendent Jeremy Pridgeon were Aldersgate, Annie Jones, Bagdad, Baker, Century, Clear Springs, Cottage Hill, Crestview First, Ensley, Lathram Chapel, Lillian, Mae Edwards, McDavid, Milton First, Navarre, New Bethel, New Hope, Niceville, Perdido Bay, Pine Forest, and Shalimar.] 2010 Connectional Mission Giving

Frequently Asked Questions about Connectional Mission & Ministry Giving (aka Apportionments)
About the Formula Used to Determine Apportionments:
For the formula used in determining apportionments, see the last page of The Connection (pdf). Thanks to the Conference Fiscal Office for providing the following information. This note was done in and relates to a previous year, but it may be helpful in understanding the basic process.
The 2010 conference budget (developed in early 2009 and approved by the annual conference in June 2009) reflected a 3.09% increase, but the only conference funding items that increased from 2009 to 2010 were the lines that provide clergy benefits, health insurance, and pension. General Church support lines did increase for 2010, but Conference leadership approved essentially a no-growth Conference budget for 2010.
What your church spends has an impact on what your Connectional Mission askings will be. In addition to the membership factor, the 2010 missional giving was determined by the information reported by your church in their 2008 Local Church Report to the Annual Conference. Lines 63-71 of that report are the factors that were used. For example, if the figures your church reported for 2008 increased by 19.73%, that would, for the most part, explain an 18% increase in your 2010 missional asking. Missional, benevolence, and capital expenditures are not included in this formula.
Opportunity for Giving Via Electronic Funds TransferAre you thinking about providing an Electronic giving program? Would providing your church members the option of paying their weekly (or semi-monthly) pledge electronically be too complicated or expensive for your church? Check out this link for information about an easily established and affordable service available for any size congregation. Fiscal Year End DateYou can find the current year's Fiscal Year End Date by going to our Forms & Documents page, find the most current Brochure of Reports, and do a word search for "Fiscal Year End." Current information is posted on the District Message Board. Click here for the announcement.
Apportionments Calculator
Introduction
(Dr. Jeremy Pridgeon 9/21/2011) - In an effort to create greater transparency and provide information to our churches about their connectional giving, a team led by Frank Dunnewind has developed a website that will allow pastors, lay leaders and other members of the church to input connectional giving figures for their congregation into the calculator and generate a breakdown of exactly where these dollars are being utilized in the ministry of the Church. You are also able to see how much your congregation has contributed to the connectional giving year-to-date. The web address for the calculator is www.awfumc.org/calculator. It is encouraging to see our connectional giving as a conference has increased 3.24% year-to-date! How to Use the Apportionments Calculator
The apportionment calculator at http://awfumc.org/calculator# lets you see where your apportionment dollars go.
Instructional Videon on How to Use the Apportionments Calculator
Thanks to the wonderful Paul Schneider at Brick River, I made a quick video to walk you through the apportionment calculator. You are welcome to pass this link to the churches in your district or anyone else that could benefit from the simple walk through. Just paste the URL into your browser and hit the play button in the center of the screen. Let me know if you have questions.

Pastor Benefit Cost Calculator
A useful Pastor Benefit Cost Calculator has been launched on the conference Web site to enable local church leaders to better determine the cost of various components of a pastor's benefits. Upon selecting the category of pastor (full elder, local pastor and percentage of appointment, etc), local church leaders can enter the church number, the base pay, and select such items as parsonage or housing allowance pension and health benefit participation. The calculator will report the amount that will be billed for defined contributions, defined benefits and comprehensive protection plan.
