Christian Support Group "Fresh Hope for Mental Health"
6:30 p.m. Mondays at Mary Esther United Methodist Church
Details here
What is Fresh Hope?
The purpose of Fresh Hope is to empower those with mental health challenges and their loved ones to live a full, rich, and faith-filled life in spite of having a mental health diagnosis.

Fresh Hope is an international network of Christian mental health support groups. The groups are nondenominational and approach mental health recovery from a hope and faith-filled perspective.

Fresh Hope is a mutual-help, peer-to-peer support group in which members encourage one another as equals under the guidance of a facilitator. The meeting format includes both a large and small group experience, where members can share as little or as much of their “journey” as they desire.

Fresh Hope is also a professionally-guided group, with a variety of educational, ministerial, social service and psychiatric representatives serving on the Board of Directors, in addition to Fresh Hope group members.

Fresh Hope is not intended to replace professional treatment such as therapy and prescribed medications when needed. Rather, Fresh Hope serves as a supplemental support and information system so that members and those who love them might develop tools to help them manage their illness on a daily basis in order to live with dignity and hope in Christ.

Update: Lay Servant Ministries Charge Conference Forms
from David Bowen, AWF Conference Director, Lay Servant Ministries

For this year's Charge Conference Packages, there will only be 3 forms that deal with Lay Servant Ministries.

Those are:

The previously used report "Application to Begin As a Lay Servant in The United Methodist Church" is no longer a valid form. Those who are contemplating getting into the LSM program will begin by taking the basic course and the application to take the course will be approved by their Senior Minister. No charge conference reporting is needed for someone just thinking about getting into the program.

The Certified Lay Servant Report will be used by those who have completed the basic course and one advanced course.

The Certified Lay Speaker Report will be used by those who have completed all the requirements and have become a Certified Lay Speaker.

The Certified Lay Minister Report will be used by those who are in the CLM program.

The Lay Servant and Lay Speaker reports are signed by the Pastor, Layperson, and DS. The charge conference keeps the original and makes 3 copies. One copy goes to the District Superintendent, one copy goes to the District Director of Lay Servant Ministries, and one copy goes to the Layperson.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

David Bowen
Conference Director of Lay Servant Ministries

Benefit Fish Fry for Rev. Joe Hensel
Rev. Joe Hensel, pastor of Farm Hill United Methodist Church, was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor in April of this year. Things have moved rather quickly. He and his lovely wife, Joy, are both unable to work. He is now fighting double pneumonia and a blood clot in his lung. Chemo is on hold.

Farm Hill UMC will be having a Benefit Fish Fry for Pastor Joe and Joy on July 22, 10:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. They have a Facebook page about it here.  On the page they posted, "Whether you can attend or not, please lift them up in your prayers." For those who can't be there, I'm sure they'd appreciate any donations folks would like to send (clearly marked accordingly). The church address is 1251 Muscogee Road, Cantonment FL 32533-4329.

Celebration of Life Service
Saturday, July 22, is also the day in which there will be a Celebration of Life service at Mary Esther United Methodist Church for Rev. Charles Walker (retired), who passed away June 27. There will be a time to greet the family at 10:00 a.m. with the service following at 11:00 a.m. It will be strange not to see Rev. Walker this year at our district's Welcome Dinner July 25, as he and his wife, Monette, have attended together district (and conference) events like this for so many years. Charles served at Alston Ct., Marion-Junction-Orrville, Chisholm, Millbrook, Gonzalez, Dothan First (Associate), Spanish Fort, Mary Esther, Selma: Church Street, and as Demopolis District Superintendent before retiring in 2001. He's greatly missed. Monette appreciates your prayers.

Please continue to pray for Joe and Joy Hensel and for the Walker family.
